How the Digital Waste Tracking Deadline Calculator Works
Use this digital waste tracking deadline calculator to find out when each load must be reported.
- 01
Choose the date
the waste arrived at your site.
- 02
Choose your nation
England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
- 03
Get your deadline.
The calculator counts 2 working days, starting the day after receipt, skipping weekends and your nation's bank holidays, and shows the date and time your report is due (11:59pm).
The calculator also shows the outage deadline, in case the service is down.
Bank Holidays by Nation
Bank holidays are different in each part of the UK, and they change your deadline:
England and Wales:
New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, early May, spring and summer bank holidays, Christmas Day and Boxing Day
Scotland:
New Year's Day and 2 January, Good Friday, early May and spring bank holidays, the first Monday in August, St Andrew's Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day
Northern Ireland:
the England and Wales holidays plus St Patrick's Day (17 March) and the Battle of the Boyne (12 July)
The calculator uses the official GOV.UK bank holiday list for each nation, including substitute days.
Outage and Correction Deadlines
Outage: if the digital waste tracking service is unavailable, you must make a written record of each load within the normal 2 working days, then transfer it to the service within 7 working days of the outage being resolved. Choose "outage" in the calculator to work out that date.
Corrections: if you find a mistake after submitting, correct it as soon as you can and keep a record of the change. Check Defra's guidance for the current correction process.
Never Miss a Deadline Again
A calculator helps with one load. A busy site might receive hundreds a week. Our bespoke apps calculate the deadline for every load automatically, show what's due today, warn you before anything is missed, and submit records to Defra automatically through the Receipt of Waste API.
