Digital Waste Tracking for Wood Recycling Made Easy

Digital waste tracking for wood recycling doesn't have to mean more paperwork. Wood recyclers grade, process and move huge volumes of timber, pallets and panel board through permitted sites. We build a bespoke app around how your business works, so every job, weight and signature is captured once, digital waste transfer notes are sent automatically and your Defra records are submitted on time.

How Digital Waste Tracking for Wood Recycling Works

Wood recyclers take in timber, pallets, panel board and mixed wood from construction sites, skip firms, retailers and households, then grade, process and sell it on as biomass fuel, panel board feedstock or animal bedding. Permitted wood recycling sites must report every load received to Defra.

Digital waste tracking for wood recycling means capturing each load with its grade, code and weight at the gate, and reporting it automatically.

Grading at the Gate

Grading at the gate decides where wood goes and what it's worth. Staff record the grade, from A (clean) to D (hazardous), take photos and note contamination. Downgrades and rejections are recorded with evidence and shared with the supplier.

Pallet and Packaging Collections

Many wood recyclers also collect pallets and packaging from businesses. The app plans collections, records quantities and issues digital waste transfer notes, and can track pallet buy-backs and rebates.

Onward Sales to Biomass and Board

Processed wood leaves as chip, fuel, panel board feedstock or bedding. The app records each outgoing load by grade and destination and keeps mass balance between inputs and outputs.

When Wood Recyclers Must Comply

Permitted wood recycling sites are in Phase 1: mandatory from 1 October 2026 in England and Wales and 1 January 2027 in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Collection vehicles are planned for Phase 2 from October 2027.
